Forming in the early months of 2014 from a mutual love of thrashing guitars around and just being general nuisances, the four lads from Mary Handsome have set out to create tunes that have equal parts catchiness and attitude.
Guitarists Roy Kellaway and Reid Cooper first found themselves collaborating on music from the sandy shores of North East Arnhem Land. Parting ways a couple of years later with Roy moving to Brisbane and Reid moving to Western Australia. Fast-forward two years and it was time the boys reunited to play tunes again. Daniel Polson, a South African born guitarist who attended school with Roy jumped on the wagon. With the addition of Lewis Stiles on the kit the band was set.
Mary Handsome welcomed in the New Year with shows at some of Brisbane’s most renowned venues such as The Zoo and The Triffid. 2015 also saw them travel to the Northern Territory for a string of shows where they surprised audiences with their blend of twangy duel-guitar riffs and surfy undertones. After returning back from the dusty roads of Northern Australia the band quickly went to work on their debut EP.
Recorded out of a bedroom on Woodstock Road with SAE grad Brock Weston, the self-titled EP gained the band an abundance of new fans and sparked interest from online blogs and radio. Lead singles ‘Numb’ and ‘Banksia’ garnered curiosity from triple j
6 months on and the boys released single ‘No Hot No More’, backing it up with shows in Northern Australia and heading down the East Coast.
New single ‘Mirrors & Sounds’ sees the band really cement their sound. Supporting Harts on the Brisbane leg of his upcoming tour and setting off on their own single tour. Working with the A&R Department in Sydney, the band are setting out to make waves within the Australian Music Scene.
