Cuervo are a 4-piece alternative rock band based in Sydney bringing you a mix of progressive, experimental and desert rock flavours. The four members met whilst studying at The Australian Institute of Music and formed the band just over one year ago. Since then, Cuervo have been busy writing, recording and gigging at venues such as The Metro Lair, World Bar and The Annandale Hotel.

Earlier this year, through their Triple J Unearthed page, Cuervo were contacted by 272 Records in Los Angeles who wanted to have one of their songs on their latest ‘Riot On Sunset ‘compilation CD. This was released and distributed in March to several US college radio stations and music stores such as Amoeba Music.

Cuervo’s debut single ‘Inertia’ is all about frenetic riffs and drum beats coupled with angst-ridden vocals. “In a general sense, ‘Inertia’ is a love song, but not a traditional love song. It kind of delves into the darker side of love and how it has the potential to blind us from other aspects of our life”.

Upcoming shows or tour:

April 8th – Valve Bar

April 22nd – Annandale Hotel

July 14th – Oxford Art Factory

‘INERTIA’ by CUERVO is due to be released 1st May 2012

Small Talk is the latest venture for 20 year old producer and songwriter Jake Smith.

Before going out solo Jake was a guitarist in Sydney rock band Static Silhouettes for 5 years. He also spent the better part of a year playing shows as a member of The Ivy’s live line up.

At the start of 2011 Jake bid farewell to his band mates and left Sydney to start making the music that has now become Small Talk.

Make You Move the debut single from Small Talk was recorded between Small Talk’s home studio and Sydney’s Studio 301. The song was produced by Small Talk.

“I penned the lyrics for Make You Move about 3 months ago and just today I finished the final edit and mix. Between then and now the song has transformed more times than I’d want to count. But that’s just how I work. Each song starts out as a concept, and then I do my best to make it all come to life.” -Jake Smith

With one foot still in Sydney’s Indie band scene and the other in the world of music production; it’s no surprise that you can still here his guitar, loud as ever, sweeping through layer upon layer of synth goodness.

Spending his days between a home studio and the beaches of Byron Bay, you get the feeling there’s plenty more Small Talk tunes on the way, so watch this space.

UP AND COMING SHOWS:

4 May 2012 – Music Makers Club, Oxford Art Factory.

‘MAKE YOU MOVE’ by SMALL TALK will be released 1st May 2012

Lanrae grew up around Bondi, and ran away from Sydney as soon she finished school. With long stints traveling overseas and in other parts of Australia, she has most recently returned from living in remote Indigenous communities in the Northern Territory to her home town to launch her debut single Dancer.

Recorded in Lanrae and Producer Fraser Montgomery’s home studios, Dancer has all the sensibilities of an honest enchanting song. The production gives the listener a sense of freedom and light, yet when listening to the lyrics it is clear that the gently delivered message has a lot more depth than one might assume would be embedded in a song of this style.

Dancer is about moving beyond the thoughts we have about ourselves that keep us from being as confident and fabulous as we can be. It was borne on a day of resolve when the artist was battling with depression.

Lanrae uses songwriting like a diary, often writing spontaneously from a place of feeling rather than thinking and without editing as she goes. You can tell Lanrae’s lyrics emanate from a place of intimate experience and with Dancer it’s wonderfully apparent that were looking at a superbly good day.

Adventurous Sydney outfit BELL WEATHER DEPARTMENT presents all guns blazing new single ‘Asterisk’.In this catchy as hell episode, ‘Asterisk‘ multiplies the audacious, kaleidoscopic take on pop the group are renowned for with a pulsing attack that never lets up. Marching beats, hooky guitars & swooping sound bites of prey are all at large in what is to be a very memorable chapter for the band.

Previous quests have seen BELL WEATHER DEPARTMENT conquer stages up & down the east coast of Australia alongside the crème de la crème of this countries indie scene (the holidays, boy & bear, papa vs pretty, ernest ellis, dz deathrays, hunting grounds & wim), scoring rave reviews for their killer live shows, major props from many an über blog online & sweet digs nation-wide via the wireless.

‘Asterisk’ by BELL WEATHER DEPARTMENT will be released 6th April 2012 thru The A&R Department & will be supported by extensive dates throughout Australia over the next few months starting on 4th May at Sydney’s Oxford Art Factory at THE MUSIC MAKERS CLUB.

Blending moods of alt country and melodic folk with the darker undertones of indie rock, it is a diverse pallet which Nieko draws from. Inspired by artists such as JJ Cale, Ray Lamontagne, Fink and City and Colour, It is the song and where it takes the listener that Nieko is most interested in and not so much the style.

It is a smouldering dark acoustica that trembles with emotion. Having toured both nationally and internationally with his band Costa Rae, Nieko has played premier venues and festivals such as Peats Ridge and Open Arms and supported the likes of the Beautiful Girls, Blue King Brown, Ash Grunwald and Jeff Lang. As singer songwriter with Costa Rae, Nieko’s songs have been played on JJJ, FBI, Rage and Max, as well as featuring on several surf films.

Nieko now turns his attention to his Solo work, with the pending release of his new single ‘Changeling’ and will look to build on the momentum created by Costa Rae’s previous release “Shot from the moon” and further develop his diverse songwriting skills.Changeling is a song about falling in love when you least expect it. “It is about how love can transform you” Changeling was recorded with Ian Pritchett (Angus and Julia Stone, Beautiful girls) and Sean Carey, with Carlos Adura (deep sea arcade) on drums and Shannon Stitt (Uncle Jed) on keys. With its grinding synth bass and space delays, Changeling has a rich sonic pallet. With its dense indie pop aesthetic; Changeling takes the listener on a slightly different journey to Nieko’s previous acoustic based work.

In the bedroom of Melbourne based Harts, There is something special going on… His music bridges the gaps between Indie
rock, Soul and electronica forging himself a genre of his own.Harts’ Teaser Track “Back
to the Shore” is now available
online and already building buzz on the blogs.Harts writes, plays, and produces all his
own music, from the soaring vocals to the hook lines that will have the song on
replay in your mind. His debut EP, titled OFFTIME, was recorded on his own in his bedroom.
A few demos that appeared online quickly caught the attention of many,
including Lars Stalfors of the Mars Volta, who loved the
stuff and offered to mix the record.Harts is Prince meets Arctic Monkeys, with a little extra special
something. His music really is his own.Oh, And he’s pretty sweet on guitar too….The music is indie rock. But it is also electro
dance and funk.

It’s an indie creation. With shredding guitar solos, over
synth pads and pounding electro drums, topped with surreal melodies and edgy
vocals, the blend of musicianship, style and experimentation has really
transcended anything that I could hope to map out on a piece of paper of
musical influences.

The music is its own thing. My 5-track EP, Offtime, is set for
release in early 2012.

It was mixed by Lars Stalfors of The Mars Volta. He heard my demos and loved the songs so
much he offered to help bring a better and stronger mix to them. He really did
help me achieve the sound I sought after. “That sound!”

The track, “Back to the Shore” is an energetic
Indie Rock track with elements of Dance and Funk. From the extremely catchy opening
guitar hook through the soulful pads, pounding drums and exploding choruses,
the track is bound to kick your arse into party mode.

Back To The Shore is already making its way around the blogs, and
catching the attention of many. Check it out.

Timmy was the first song ever recorded and has become a crowd favourite of the boys live
set….Timmy has the bitter sweet overtones with “Pencils” raw screeching lead vocals delivering yet
another Ruminater yarn, with the band locking into some serious hillbilly swamp rock.Being the first Ruminater song that was written, Timmy tells the tale of a misunderstood character who is chased out of town due to his necrophilic actions.Critics have said that The Ruminater sound is the equivalent to “The Black lips covering The Strokes” which by all accounts, is pretty awesome.

2012 is looking to be a big year for The Ruminaters. With continuous recording and touring planned.

Belle and The Bone People are a newly formed Indie/Folk band from Sydney’s Inner West. Growing from friendships formed in the presence of music, Setting out to inspire and challenge their fans with their unique style of Indie folk.

Belle & Co. wanted to create something original whilst keeping faith in the age old tradition of folk storytelling.
Taking inspiration from personal experiences and their respective musical backgrounds, this group of musicians began writing and jamming in early August 2011. Isabella (Lead Vocals/Lyrics), Hamish (Guitar), Beth (Bass), Regan (Piano) and Kern (Drums) .
With an average age of 19 this young band will surprise you with their lyrical and musical maturity, whilst exuding an infectious youthful exuberance unique in its entirety.

Having recently finished recording their debut single ‘The Light’, Belle and The Bone People have achieved a lot in a few months. Already having played at well respected indie venues such as Yours and Owls and World Bar and recently appearing on Balcony TV Sydney, Belle and The Bone People have begun to attract a large fan base.

The Light tells a story of a first love and the expectations that one has that may or may not be fulfilled. With Belle’s vocals exuding sultriness and a pleasant mellowness accompanied by an emotive and intuitive performance by the band.
‘The Light’ let’s one drift away to a memory. However, the pleasantness contorts and twists presenting the other bitter side of broken and unrequited love when the climax hits.

‘The light’ is available from the 10th of Feb 2012
