Belle and The Bone People are a newly formed Indie/Folk band from Sydney’s Inner West. Growing from friendships formed in the presence of music, Setting out to inspire and challenge their fans with their unique style of Indie folk.

Belle & Co. wanted to create something original whilst keeping faith in the age old tradition of folk storytelling.
Taking inspiration from personal experiences and their respective musical backgrounds, this group of musicians began writing and jamming in early August 2011. Isabella (Lead Vocals/Lyrics), Hamish (Guitar), Beth (Bass), Regan (Piano) and Kern (Drums) .
With an average age of 19 this young band will surprise you with their lyrical and musical maturity, whilst exuding an infectious youthful exuberance unique in its entirety.

Having recently finished recording their debut single ‘The Light’, Belle and The Bone People have achieved a lot in a few months. Already having played at well respected indie venues such as Yours and Owls and World Bar and recently appearing on Balcony TV Sydney, Belle and The Bone People have begun to attract a large fan base.

The Light tells a story of a first love and the expectations that one has that may or may not be fulfilled. With Belle’s vocals exuding sultriness and a pleasant mellowness accompanied by an emotive and intuitive performance by the band.
‘The Light’ let’s one drift away to a memory. However, the pleasantness contorts and twists presenting the other bitter side of broken and unrequited love when the climax hits.

‘The light’ is available from the 10th of Feb 2012

Every now and then, a band comes along with the sounds of something fresh and promising. Sydney
band Battleships fits right into this category. Formed in early 2011, they spent most of the
year writing, rehearsing and recording new material, then testing it on live audiences. Their
debut single ‘In Retrospect’ is the first offering from this young Sydney band.

‘In Retrospect’ tips it hat to the differing musical influences of the bands individual
members, blending hauntingly ethereal vocals with the aesthetics of Post-Britpop and creating a
sound entirely their own. The song seduces you with the airy melody and sweeps you up in the
tones and rhythms of the band. ‘In Retrospect’ is “…a perfect mix of genius musicality and
subtle hooks that leave a memorable aftertaste, ensuring a second listen…”
(Jimmy2sox – Flight Facilities).

The band sets out to record as many of their rehearsals as possible, and ‘In Retrospect’ was
birthed out of one of these many sessions. Battleships recorded, mixed and produced ‘In
Retrospect’ themselves in a 100-year-old hall, adding a touch of vintage flavour. They then had
it mastered in Sydney’s Level 7 Studios by the renowned Don Bartley (The Vines, Metallica,
Silverchair, The Living End).

For fans of: Radiohead, The National, Doves, Arcade Fire, Local Natives, Coldplay

Battleships debut single ‘In Retrospect’ is due for release on February 10th 2012.

‘In Retrospect’ is available on iTunes on February 10th 2012.

‘The Pursuit Of Blue’ is the first single to arrive from Bell Weather Department’s forthcoming debut LP, set for release in 2012. ‘The Pursuit Of Blue’ blends the heart pounding pace of the bands live shows with the atmospheric textures of some of their earlier demos, reflecting the kaleidoscopic nature of Bell Weather Department‘s music. It throws forward the notion of being transported from a place of comfort into a world of chaos, yet retains a sense of serene euphoria throughout.

The single release of Bell Weather Department‘s ‘The Pursuit Of Blue’ is being backed up with another sneak peek from the forthcoming LP with the online release of the live favourite, ‘Back In Time’. Both tracks are available from December 2.

Sydney duo The Estate are poised to release their second album, Qué?stions, on December 16.

Fuelled by the sizzling 80’s synth, funky guitars and impassioned vocals that have become their trademark, Que?stions marks the continuation of The Estate’s collaboration with producer
Sean Carey, who has taken the duo’s quirky new wave sound and added a radio-friendly sheen.

The first two singles from Que?stions, ‘Answers’ and ‘Stay With Me’, have both cracked the top 5 on the Triple J Unearthed Charts and the videos have been well received on Rage. The latest single, ‘Under The Weather’, will be released to coincide with the album launch.

The Estate have been making music in their current incarnation since early 2008, when the debut single ‘Out of Town’ was commissioned by Foghorn Records for their tastemaker selection of up and coming unsigned artists: Grow Your Own: Upload 2.

With diverse influences ranging from Bob Dylan, through Prince and Eurythmics to the Red Hot Chilli Peppers and Gorillaz, The Estate maintain the fresh eclectic style that has been present since the duo first started playing together over 10 years ago, meeting at night to jam in the empty schoolyard.

The Estate will be playing a special promotional show at The Paragon Hotel in Sydney on December 10 with January dates to be announced soon.

After a few shows in the Byron area, Jono and Dr Pete decided to pack up shop and move to Sydney to find themselves a female singer to round out the trio. At the end of an extensive auditioning process they found Irish vocalist Ciara McKeown, who with her Celtic lilt and amazing lyrical skills was the perfect addition to the band.

Recently Sexy On Fridays have been touring the east coast with a series of shows in Sydney, Melbourne, Canberra and Brisbane in the lead up to the official release of their debut track, ‘Pitch Black’, from their forthcoming album, due out in 2012. The album, including ‘Pitch Black’, was written produced and mixed entirely by Sexy On Fridays.

In the last 12 months, Underlights have not only been busy on stage, but in the studio preparing for their debut EP.

In the first half of the year the band took several trips to pre-produce in the Southern Highlands, battling wind storms, power failures and falling tress (that almost killed their soon to be producer), but with a swag full of exciting new material Underlights are happy to say it was all worth it.

In August 2011 under the guidance of legendary producer Paul Mckercher, Underlights headed into the homely surrounds of the now dearly departed Big Jesus Burger studios in Surry Hills, to knock out the first two singles of their forthcoming debut EP. It was a fantastic opportunity for the band to tap into the extensive knowledge of one the countries most prolific producers and draw the absolute most out of each studio session.

Although recording of the EP is still underway, the partnership has so far yielded incredible results. Taking its inspiration from yesteryear, the first single ‘Now That You’re In Love’ has been met with rave reviews and this week has them featuring as the Triple J unearthed artist of the week.

Since their formation in mid 2010, The Ruminaters have gained a reputation for their reckless, edgy swamp rock sound and rowdy live sets.

With varied influences from The Strokes and The White Stripes to The Clash and The Libertines; The Ruminaters just play feel good tunes and have fun.

“For most Melbournians, the name ‘Waverley’ is synonymous with a local football ground but after Friday night’s show, I suspect that may not be the case for much longer.” – Beat Magazine

With the first single “Where Were You” having been launched to a packed crowd at Yah Yah’s in September, and their music video for the same track being played on rotation throughout the following month on ABC’s rage, the guys in Waverley could hardly wait to get their second single “Paper Walls” into people’s ears.

The story goes that after seeing the band play at the Brunswick Hotel, Craig Harnath (Franz Ferdinand, Jet, Motor Ace) managed to convince the guys that he knew just how to capture their sound, and he even promised that it would end up sounding better then the home recordings they’d been doing up to that point! The months that followed this meeting saw Waverley crafting the songs that were to become the record with A&R manager Matt O’Connor (Shihad, Sparkadia, Magic Dirt).

The whole thing was mixed by Melbourne’s own young-gun Jez Giddings (Red Ink, Hunting Grounds) and given the final touches by the legendary Jack The Bear (Silverchair, Eskimo Joe). It is set for release in 2012.

Waverley’s second single “Paper Walls”, released December 5th, kicks their fun, grungy sound firmly up a gear. “It’s all about trying to convince that one person in your life that there is so much to gain from getting out of a toxic relationship.” explains front man Darius. It’s a tight, drum driven anthem juxtaposed with the raw and indolent voice of front man Darius.

Again the guys went DIY for the clip, and put it all together on a shoestring. It follows a heart-broken girl as she runs to escape her estranged partner only to find herself wandering the streets of Melbourne collecting clues for how things went so wrong in newspaper articles which she tries to piece together and post on walls in the hope that they will lead the right person to her.

The half Aussie, half Austrian urban clash duo T.A.B. are back with their latest grimy electro number, ‘Grind’, from their forthcoming album due out in 2012.

Based in Austria, T.A.B. is comprised of Aussie MC Jason Waterhouse a.k.a. Mr Tears and Austrian native Bernhard Kathrein a.k.a. Benson. The pair has been collaborating since 2008 and are forerunners in the urban clash movement (a mashup of hip hop, dance and r‘n‘b) in Europe. Earlier this year T.A.B. introduced the fresh new sound of urban clash to the Aussie airwaves with their first single ‘Cocowrongo’ and T.A.B’s latest offering ‘Grind’, pushes the boundaries of the genre, introducing some influences from the grime and dubstep circles to the urban clash mix.

Mr Tears thought of the idea for ‘Grind’ while working with his mum for the old family food production business. It was a hard time for the family, working extremely long hours for peanuts. So while spending hours rolling dumplings, the only thing that went through Tearsʼ head was ‘fight, hustle, grind, struggle’. The new single, originally intended as a self-motivator for Tears, is an adrenalin filled three-and-a-half minutes of dirty beats and relentless rhymes that will put more than a spring in your step while your fighting through the daily grind.

Off the back of their debut single, “Here’s The Girl”, Melbourne based duo Harmless return with another contribution to 2011’s indie music itinerary from their forthcoming debut album Water Feature.

“Deliver” is the second statement off their debutant record, exposing the songwriting and production capabilities of Cesar Rodrigues (Blue King Brown), Monty Mackenzie (Cleverhorse), and guest Nick Martyn (Clairy Brown). It is an amalgamation of synthesized melodies, intricate guitar musings, Mackenzie’s reposeful vocals, and programmed rhythm eventuating in a climax filled with a raucousness that reveres the psychedelic and heavier side of their music collection.

Harmless’ forthcoming album, Water Feature, from which both “Here’s The Girl” and now “Deliver” have been drawn, traverses between hip-hop, post-rock, electronic and avant garde on its way to new sonic territories. Water Feature was recorded, tracked and self-produced at Blank Tape Studios, and sees the band draw on a rich diversity of influences such as Battles, Miles Davis, Animal Collective, Radiohead, AlasNoAxis, TV On The Radio and Steve Reich to name a few.

The result is an album of emotive songwriting and a resonate amalgamation of organic and synthetic colors to create, a sometimes ethereal, sometimes threatening collage of textures and rhythm that is vibrantly original yet subtly familiar. Water Feature is due out on indie label Blank Tape Music in 2012…so stay tuned.
